Install LibreELEC on S905X - TUTORIAL
#1
Star
How to install LibreELEC on Tv Box with S905 or S905X CPU on MicroSD / USB

In this guide you will be able to install LibreELEC on MicroSD / USB without touching Android OS or the original firmware.
LibreELEC is a OS that runs only Kodi. It runs faster and as you turn on your TV Box you will find Kodi.

I did this on my A95X with CPU S905X. It runs very good and it enables (if you need) the Force RGB option for old TVs.
I suggest to install to the main Memory (Nand) or to run it on a very fast MicroSD.

TUTORIAL:
1. You will need the tool to write the image of LibreELEC on the MicroSD (or USB), downloads: WindowsMacLinux-32 BitLinux-64 Bit
2. Insert the MicroSD (or USB) on the computer and run "LibreELEC USB-SD Creator" (run as Administrator). You should see this:

3. Download the LibreELEC file from here: LibreELEC 7.0.3.011 (you can check an updated version here, I wouldn't install alpha versions)
4. On the "LibreELEC USB-SD Creator" click on Select File and select the image that you downloaded before.
5. ATTENTION all the files on your MicroSD will be deleted!  Select the MicroSD under the 3. Don't select other drives here!
6. Click on Write and wait till it finishes writing.
7. If your box has a S905X CPU jump to n. 8. If your box has S905: Remove the MicroSD / USB and plug it back in to the computer, go to the root of the MicroSD / USB and copy one of this file inside it, renaming it as dtb.img and removing the existing one. Of those files download the one that seems more close to your box. 1 GB of Ram or 2 GB.
8. The MicroSd / USB is ready. Insert it into the TV Box and boot it into Recovery mode (unplug the power press the reset key hidden under the AV plug with a toothpick and plug the power keeping the reset key pressed until it loads). If you are using a USB and it doesn't load into recovery mode try using a different USB port.
9. Once inside recovery mode with your remote select reboot. Your TV Box should load LibreELEC.

HOW TO FORCE RGB (FOR OLDER TVs)
If you have an old TV and it presents the handshake problem with green screen you should enable the Force RGB option.

1. Enable SSH connection from the LibreELEC settings on the TV Box
2. Check the IP address of the Box from connection
3. From your computer open Terminal for MAC and Linux or Start - Run - CMD for Windows.
4. Connect to your TV box (user root): ssh root@192.168.1.51
This is a MAC command. Check for windows or linux on how to connect via SSH.
5. insert the password: libreelec
6. Run:
Code:
cd .config
nano autostart.sh
7. This starts an editor. Insert the following text:

Code:
#!/bin/sh

echo 1 > /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/output_rgb
8. Save with the same name
9. Run:

Code:
chmod 755 autostart.sh
reboot

Now you have the RGB enabled.

You can check by doing steps 1 to 6 to check if the file was saved.

HOW TO INSTALL LibreELEC ON INTERNAL MEMORY

You can always flash Android back in, with the firmware that you find in this forum!
1. Run steps from 1-5 of "Enable RGB tutorial"
2. Run:
Code:
installtointernal
3. The box will reboot and you can remove your MicroSD / USB. It will load from internal memory.

Let me know if you have any problems. I will try to help!

I did this because a lot of users have the green screen problem and LibreELEC solved it. I tried the October, Nov, Dic official firmware for the A95X box but even enabling the "Force RGB" option didn't help.

HOW TO UPDATE VIA SSH

LibreELEC gets updated every once in a while, with a lot of bug fixes and the updated Kodi.
To update you need to connect to the box via SSH like shown above and:

Code:
# cd .update/
# wget lastversion.img.tgz
# reboot

lastversion.img.tgz should be a link that you can find on this forum. ex:
Code:
wget http://kszaq.libreelec.tv/s905/7.0.3.012/LibreELEC-S905.arm-7.0.3.012d.img.gz

OR
Follow these instructions (didn't work for me).

Another way could be to download the img and install as fresh install.

I'm currently trying this beta version that has the last Kodi 17. It works good but I suggest the stable release.

Installed this today on my A95x (Dual Boot) - very impressed.. As Daniel says , you need a nice , fast Class 10 Micro Sd card for best results..

HI, I am using an external USB and have TWRP recovery. I reboot recovery however it will not run LibreELEC. Is there any other way to run it from TWRP? Also, my box does not have an AV reset button which is why I installed Customer recovery so that it is easier to access.

Hi,

1) This method details how to install with TWRP:
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-supp...for-s905-x

2) I have not tried this myself , but this is worth a try for units that do not have the reset switch. I have not tried this myself with LibreELEC , but it works for me when I boot TWRP from SD card. Suggest you do a TWRP backup of your unit first - just in case..

1) Format a fast Micro SD card with this tool:
http://releases.libreelec.tv/LibreELEC.U....Win32.exe
2) Use this file in the above:
http://kszaq.libreelec.tv/s905/7.0.3.011...011.img.gz
3) Copy a dummy .zip file to the "boot" partition. Located here:
https://mega.nz/#!Q1YEGYqI!-lhuZTGZWRU0a...MSO1N9iseA
4) Go into the "Update/Backup" app on your device.
5) In the update section manually browse to the Update.zip file above.
6) Hit update and your box will reboot and hopefully boot into LibreELEC.

Please let us know which methods work..

Thank you for hte response.  I have it now running through the first method posted (via the link on freaktab).  However the problem is it is no longer dual boot for some reason.  I do not have the reset button so cannot figure out how to get into recovery mode where I have TWRP.  I have a backup on another SD card of the stock OS.  I have tried flashing firmware from scratch via Windows but "USB Burning tool" no longer recognizes when I connect to the Computer.  Is there anyway I can force to recovery?
